WOMAN? SACRIFICE?

SACRIFICE.....sounds familiar? Of course it does! According to Dan Brown in his book 'The Lost Symbol', he writes 'The ancient rite of 'sacred making' had been the law of the land. From the early Hebrews who made burnt offerings at the temple, to the Mayans who beheaded humans atop the pyramids of Chichen Itza, to Jesus Christ, who offered his body on the cross, the ancients understood God's requirement for scarifice.'
Today, in this modern world though we don't have those gruesome scarifice still we find this term used for giving up something which is valuable to us in order to help someone. And interestingly the example given for this word in Cambridge Dictionary is, 'Many women sacrifice interesting careers for their family' Why can't it be men who sacrifice for their family?
It is a known fact that women all around the world are the ones to sacrifice. If she is born in a poverty stricken family, she will give up her schooling for her brothers. As she grows up, just because she is born as a woman, she has to sacrifice her lifestyle. She is not allowed to live her life as she likes. When she gets married she has to sacrifice her dreams and aspirations for her husband. Then she becomes a mother and sometimes she has to sacrifice her job. All in all, what I want to say is why does a woman have to sacrifice so much? Why can't a man be the one to sacrifice sometimes?
I can't deny the fact that there are few men who do sacrifice for their families but majority of men take their wives for granted. They think it's women's job to sacrifice. After sacrificing everything for her family, at the end of the day what does she get? Nothing, not even a 'Thank You' from her husband. So basically what I want to say is, men atleast to appreciate what your wives are doing for you!

  3. this is an interesting post, and a factual description. But the society is so developed and inherited that women sacrifice more than their men counterpart, and such a trend is still visible infront of my eyes as well. Indeed Men need to take their own share for sacrifices.

  4. On a feminist note, women are intellectually equal and physically weak as compared to men. If women are to remain as "Angel of the house", she has to be treated in a better way-this boys can decide ;)

  6. I won't say universally accepted but rather a stereotype men have for women in general...it is not impossible to change the way things are but male chauvinism will not do that...

  7. I realized and feel so deepened after going through your post. There are many societal things needed to root out but things aren't working as we expect, perhaps every aspects counts for these differences.
